The Legacy of the Natore Rajbansh
The story of Natore Rajbari begins in the early 18th century. In 1706, Raja Ram Jiban Chowdhury became the first king of the Natore dynasty, establishing a lineage that would later flourish under his adopted son Ramakanta and the legendary Rani Bhabani. Under Rani Bhabani’s stewardship, the estate expanded across present-day Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Kushtia, Jessore, Rangpur, and parts of West Bengal, including Murshidabad, Birbhum, and Malda. Her vision, governance, and devotion left a lasting imprint on the region, shaping both its cultural and political identity.

A Palace of Grandeur
Constructed between 1706 and 1710 on the fertile lands of Bhatjharar Bill, Natore Rajbari was designed to reflect both majesty and functionality. Raja Ram Jiban, guided by Dewan Raghunandan and learned scholars, transformed the land by digging ponds, leveling courtyards, and constructing elegant halls, creating a royal residence that embodied power and sophistication. The palace complex spans 120 acres, featuring eight buildings, two large ponds, and five smaller ponds, all enclosed by a two-tiered fortified wall. Divided into Boro Taraf and Chhoto Taraf, the estate also houses temples such as Shyamsundar Mandir, Anandamayi Kalibari Mandir, Tarapith Mandir, and Tarakeshwar Shiv Mandir, reflecting the spiritual and cultural life of its royal inhabitants.
